About us

TPLT has a team of experienced and highly qualified teacher professional developers, to support schools and teachers make the learning of languages rewarding and successful for students.  Most of the facilitators completed TPDL (former name for TPLT) themselves as teachers; all have taught languages in New Zealand schools - some still are teaching - and all continue to learn languages themselves.

24 Team Wendy 1600px-13 Wendy Thomson, Project Director
Wendy taught languages for many years in primary and secondary schools and was a regional adviser in languages for seven years. Wendy has been Project Director of TPDL/TPLT programme, developing it from a regional pilot in 2005 to the programme it is today - available nationally for all teachers of 11 different languages
10 Team Wendy 800px-60 Rosemary Erlam, Academic Director
Rosemary is primary school trained and has taught French in a variety of contexts. Her PhD, which compared the effectiveness of different instructional methods, was conducted in secondary school French classrooms in New Zealand. Rosemary has been TPDL/TPLT Academic Director since 2010.
20 Team Wendy 800px-908 Nathalie Bourneville, National Co-ordinator
Nathalie taught Physical Education in France. She has a Diploma in Teaching from The University of Auckland. Nathalie has taught new entrants to Y4 as a general classroom teacher and French, Spanish and PE at all levels. She was a participant teacher of TPDL in 2006 and began working as part of the TPDL team in 2007. She also taught French to pre-service teachers at The University of Auckland and a French conversation class at Unitec. She is now TPLT National Coordinator.
15 Team Wendy 800px-505 Janelle Wood, Language Study Coordinator 
Janelle taught German and Japanese to Year 7 and 8 students for eight years. She completed TPDL in 2010 and has been working as an In-School Support Facilitator since 2011. Janelle is also the Language Study Coordinator for TPLT.
04 Team Wendy 800px-533 Sheena von Bassewitz, In-School Support Facilitator
Sheena has taught German, French, Japanese, English and other subjects in secondary schools for many years. She has been an In-School Support Facilitator since 2009.
lata-924-754-141 Lata Langi, In-School Support Facilitator
Lata taught Geography for many years in secondary schools and teachers' college in Tonga and now teaches Tongan language at Southern Cross Campus College. Lata completed TPDL in 2011 and joined the team in 2013.
Gordon-811 Gordon Gallop, In-School Support Facilitator
Gordon Gallop teaches French, Spanish, Mandarin and Te Reo Maori. Gordon completed TPDL in 2012 in French and again in 2013 in Samoan. Gordon joined the TPDL team in 2014. Gordon is also an Anglican priest at St Elizabeth’s Church in Clendon.
Jenny Booth-58 Jennifer Booth, In-School Support Facilitator
Jennifer did TPDL in 2006, teaching German, and again in 2016, teaching Chinese. Jennifer has many years’ experience teaching French, German, Maori, Mandarin and ESOL at primary school level.
Ai-Hsin-862 Ai-Hsin Ho, In-School Support Facilitator
Dr Ai-Hsin Ho is currently the Head of Languages Faculty, overseeing the teaching and learning of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French and Spanish at Westlake Boys High School. Ai-Hsin completed TPDL herself in 2015 and now works as part of the TPLT team of In-School Support Facilitators.
Juliet K for web-274 Juliet Kennedy, In-School Support Facilitator
Juliet has been teaching French and German for over ten years and has now also teaches Mandarin at beginner level. She is currently studying for an MA in Applied Linguistics. Juliet completed TPDL in 2013 and joined the TPDL team in 2014.

Neena Raniga is the Programme Administrator. She has been part of the team since 2007.
